A Close Friend and Scientific Collaborator

Created by Michael 2 years ago

Dave and I had a scientific collaboration spanning three decades and this developed into a close friendship. We both had a particular interest in red blood cells. In the earlier years we used to have sessions writing scientific papers, often in the evenings in each others' houses. I have particularly fond memories of these sessions when we would spend two hours talking about the world, politics, and all sorts as well as the science. The remaining hour or so of the session was actually getting down to writing the paper!

We remained close friends after I retired from science and Joan and I regularly used to meet up with Maggs and Dave over dinner. Maggs used to organise special weekend events for Dave's special birthdays for a small group of people. These memorable and enjoyable events were held in small hotels in the countryside in different places.

We continued to meet up with Dave until quite recently when his health was failing. We will miss him very much.
